Perfect Love Casts Out Fear

Answer Fear with Faith“When fear knocks on your door, answer with faith.” – Joyce Meyer

What a great picture this forms in your mind! When fear first comes, if we could immediately counter it with faith… what a difference that would make.

We all have fear knocking at our door in some form or another. Fear of sickness, fear of the future, fear of being alone are common fears. There is plenty to fear out there.

Our enemy knows all fear begins in the mind. He sets traps all day long for us. So many times I will catch myself dwelling on something and I don’t even know how I got to those thoughts.

I have learned to recognize them more quickly, and to reject them.

To quote the Word instead…

“No evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; for He shall give his angels charge over you.” – Psalm 91:10-11

What comfort it brings to dwell on the Word. Words of home and healing. Words of life and freedom. The Bible says, “fear hath torment, but perfect love casts out all fear.”

Our enemy comes to kill, steal, and destroy, but Christ came that we might have life and have life more abundantly.

So when fear comes knocking… and you know it will… answer it with faith… faith in God and His Word.

A Life Changing Thought

Joyce Meyer - Set Your Mind On Things Above

“You cannot have a positive life and a negative mind.” – Joyce Meyer

For those who are according to the flesh and are controlled by its unholy desires set their mind on and pursue those things which gratify the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit and are controlled by the Spirit set their minds on and seek those things which gratify the Holy Spirit. – Romans 8:5

What a life changing thought!

You cannot have a positive life and a negative mind. I am convinced that a lot of people do not even realize they have a negative mind. We drift through life not really taking inventory of what we are thinking about. For a long time, I never realized I could even control what I dwelled on.

We had been through such a battle in our finances. Not only that, but we were dealing with a dream of ours coming to an end. It was a long, hard battle. We were in survival mode; wondering when the next shoe was going to drop. I did not realize how negative my thinking had become.

It began to really have an effect on my health. As I began to have health problems, I realized my negative thinking was making me sick.

The Lord began to show me, with teaching from Joyce, that I have to stop worrying and fretting or I was really going to do some harm.

As the Holy Spirit began to reveal some things to me, I started to make some lifestyle changes. I quit listening to things that were negative… like the news. I played worship music most of the time. Even at night, when we went to bed, I would turn on worship music.

I paid more attention to the thoughts I allowed myself to dwell on. When negative thoughts would come, I would refuse to let them stay. I would replace them with scripture that was uplifting and encouraging.

God began to change our situation. He has faithfully brought us through every tough season in our lives. through obedience to His Word and teaching from Godly influences like Joyce Meyer, our faith and trust in God has really grown as a result of this hard-fought battle. I am so grateful that the Lord has seen me through to the other side.

Think About What You’re Thinking About

Battlefield of the mind

In Joyce Meyer’s book, Battlefield of the Mind, she has a chapter called, “Think About What You’re Thinking About.”

As I began to meditate on what Joyce was saying, I realized that I did not pay attention to my thought life. I just went about my day allowing thoughts to pass through my mind without paying much attention to them.

Since I have had some problems with anxiety and fear, I began to examine just what it was I was allowing to fill my mind all day. I found that I did spend a large amount of time worrying and fretting about most area’s of my life… from my kids to my marriage, to our finances.

I laughed when Joyce said, “Her mind was a mess!” and that she was thinking about all the wrong things. I felt exactly this same way too!

So, I started to do as Joyce said and meditate on God’s Word more. I would get up in the morning and read the Word; pulling out nuggets of truth that ministered to me. When I noticed I was having negative thoughts, I would recite God’s Word that I had learned that morning.

I began to notice how my thought life was changing. I had a lot less fear and anxiety. I felt happier and more at peace. It was a real wake-up call for me.

We have a real enemy out there that has the ability to put thoughts in our mind. He works very hard to try and steal our peace and joy. He ultimately wants to keep us from overcoming.

Joyce says, “Your mind plays an important role in your victory.” We have to control our thought life to experience His victory!

It is important to take inventory about what you are thinking about. You might find out, as I did, that your thought life is contributing to some of the negative feelings you are experiencing.

The Good news is when you exchange your thoughts for His Word, you will experience a lot more peace and joy.
